Web Design
Back in 1999, my daughter was born with a condition called 'Talipes', more often known as 'clubfoot'. During their first visit to see her, my friend's husband linked me up to the internet for the first time, and I began hunting for information. There were a limited number of sites available, and the majority were based in America, where treatment was a little different. I decided to set up a basic site of my own, and so my journey into the world of web design began!
That site has expanded since then, it has a forum full of useful information, and does pretty well in the search engines. I'm no expert at 'search engine optimisation', I've gotten there through alot of hard work. It's an established site, it has alot of links to it, and I try to keep it up to date as much as I can.. I think that all helps.
As I started to learn more, I also started up my own personal site, and then purchased my domain name. The coding for the original site is a complete jungle of tabs, and some bits are no longer working as they should in some browsers. Hence the move to 'version 2' that you see here. It's based on the adapted theme that I use for my blog, which means that everything blends together. :)
The domain includes 2 sub-sections, with the 1st being Bethany's site. I'm sure the code there is a mess, but it works ok for now, so it can stay as it is!
The 2nd is a site that I maintain for my mum, outlining her experiences with a condition called 'Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension'. It used to include a forum, but this has been recently combined with IIH.org.uk.
In July last year I started up a book forum, and built a small site to go with it. This was my first serious attempt to use css for my formatting, and it certainly makes editing of content easier. Going into my older sites is like going into a jungle of tags! The forum itself is a happy little community, and many members are discovering new authors and genres to try, including myself. I'm hoping to build up the site to go with it.
My two most recent projects have been for friends.. Cindy is a writer who's hoping to be published one day in the near future. We finally arrived at a look for her site, including her blog and MySpace. I'm looking forward to the day when I can add that new page to her site, all about that debut book!
Katherine is a published author - her site had been redesigned by a friend with limited time, so I've just rearranged and tidied it up for her. :)
